Volunteers' Week 1 - 12 June 2016: The Big Celebration

18 May 2016

“Volunteers are vital to the continuation of our services” – when Mary-Ann Leader, Community Engagement Co-ordinator at South Bucks Hospice said this to us last year, she summed up perfectly the fantastic role played by volunteers – and there are 23 million of them in the UK – contributing an estimated £23.9 billion to the economy!

Two-week celebration
It’s fitting, therefore, that every June, all of us who involve volunteers have the opportunity to say a big “thank you” – and this year, Volunteers’ Week has been extended! From throwing a tea party, to having an awards’ ceremony, or even just going out for a drink, there are loads of different ways to recognise the important contribution of these people who are the lifeblood of your organisation.

To provide you with some inspiration, NCVO has put together a handy digital resource pack full of ideas and downloadable templates and logos. Don’t forget to use the #volunteersweek hashtag in your promotions.

Tell us all about it!
We’d really love to know how you will be celebrating your volunteers – the more innovative or unusual the idea the better - please just pop your plans and your contact details into this online event form, and we’ll be in touch!

And we’re really interested in hearing from your volunteers too, so that we can feature their stories on our volunteer recruitment portal VolunteeringBucks. Please ask them to fill in this very short online form – it’ll only take a minute!

Need some inspiration for your volunteer recruitment plans?
We’re running our next Volunteering Advice Surgery on 14 June in High Wycombe, on Big Advice Day, which is part of Small Charity Week (13 – 18 June). If you need some help recruiting, managing or retaining volunteers, then please book a place - we look forward to seeing you!
