Community Impact Bucks is the independent charity which provides comprehensive support services to other charities, community groups, social enterprises and rural organisations throughout Buckinghamshire. It is also the Volunteer Centre for Buckinghamshire, helping members of the public to get involved in community activity. How can we help you today?
Gardening Services
Gardening Project on BBC Oxford News
Since 2003 we have been providing charitable year-round gardening and well-being services to people living in the Aylesbury Vale district who are often vulnerable, isolated and living alone in the community. Typically, our service users are older people or people living with disabilities; most live in disadvantaged areas.
The Gardening Service is volunteer-delivered and provides a rewarding activity in the form of a ‘green gym' where volunteers can improve their health, increase their employability and enhance their social networks.
We have a flexible approach to volunteering which is designed to fit in with our volunteers other commitments. They can garden for the same client regularly or a variety of clients on an ad-hoc basis. Those that like to garden with others can become part of our gardening team. There are also opportunities for beginners to ‘buddy-up' with experienced gardeners.
We are supported by the Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust; Aylesbury Vale District Council's Community Safety Team; Bucks County Council's Prevention Team and their Local Area Forum for the Haddenham area.
The Services we provide include:
- General garden maintenance
- Garden clearances
- Community-level growing
- Therapeutic and defensive planting
- Community engagement
- Befriending
- Mentoring
In 2009, 54 volunteers donated over 4000 hours oftheir time to provide 1800 gardening visits for 168 clients.
